Lake Oswego to Portland Transit Alternatives Analysis Study
Metro is beginning a corridor study to evaluate possible transit and transportation options between Lake Oswego and Portland. The cities of Portland and Lake Oswego, Clackamas and Multnomah counties, the Oregon Department of Transportation and TriMet are participating in the study. Citizens, business representatives and property owners have been selected to serve on a Project Advisory Committee that will meet monthly to consider issues and alternatives.
The first step of the corridor study will be to define a range of options to be considered in a process called scoping. In this first step, there will be opportunities for community members to suggest options to be included in the analysis. After scoping is completed in 2006, staff will analyze options and provide the public and decision-makers with information to help narrow the wide range of alternatives to a few that best address needs in the corridor.
Metro and its project partners currently own what is known as the Willamette shoreline right of way, a former freight rail route between Portland and Lake Oswego along the Willamette River currently used for excursion trolleys. A transit option that uses this right of way, with and without a trail component, is likely to be one of several options considered during the alternatives analysis.
